Children are vulnerable, protect them! Mind how you speak to them
because your words can help shape their future or destroy it. If we are going
to have a better future, we must invest in our seed (Children). Most parents don’t
seem to understand this; they speak poisonous words to their children, and as
they pour out those poisonous words unknown to them they are shaping the
children unto becoming what they have been proclaiming.
Words are Powerful Proverbs 18:20, 21 say;
A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and]
with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life [are] in the
power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (KJV)
The above scripture is very true! Confession they say brings
possession. So true are these words. As a parent, what are you saying to your
children? It may not be biological children but what do you say to them? Again,
let me ask you this question, if you call your child stupid and he begins to
act stupidly, will you be angry? All these are honest and sincere questions you
need to answer.
“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth...”
That scripture is very clear that your belly shall be filled with the
fruit of your mouth. That what comes out of your mouth is what will satisfy
your belly. To be satisfied denotes meeting the expectations or meeting the
needs of someone. So the words you speak will meet your expectations; that is
what the bible says.
The New Living Translation says;
“Wise words satisfy like a good meal.”
If wise words satisfy that means foolish words can cause harm, hunger,
malnutrition, you name it. So it is either you are satisfied or you are hungry
or malnourished. All is your choice.
Let me correct some notion a lot of parents have here, and that is
that, if and when a child begins to
misbehave, they always blame God. Some have even believed that no matter what,
out of four or more children that you have, some must be bad. It is not true!
This is a fallacy from the pit of hell. There is no single truth in it at all.
Other parents will always say, you can give birth to a child but can never give
birth to his character. This also is not true: It is a parental failure that
brings about these theories. We have forgotten as parents how we insult and
curse our children not minding the power of our words under the guise of anger.
Ecclesiastes 7:9
Thank God I did not make this up, the Bible clearly says so. For you
parents that always claim that it is anger that makes you to make such
pronouncements, you need to repent and ask God to forgive you. The scripture
says anger rests in the bosom of fools. Are you a fool? If you allow anger to
rule you, it means you have agreed that you are a fool. Not unless you want to
be a fool.
“Be not hasty in your spirit
to be angry”
Having said this let me reiterate that as parents, we must do
everything possible to protect our children from poisonous words. We must not
tolerate it whether it is from us or from anybody. You should also know that
the moment you are telling your child saying, “you are stupid, bastard” or
whatever, you are cursing the child. That for sure is not the kind of gift you
want to give to your children.
Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it
shall eat the fruit thereof.
The tongue connotes that little organ of the body we use to taste,
swallow or licks anything edible. We also use the tongue for speech. Languages
are also referred to as tongues.
We can see that the tongue is used to do so many things; but prominent
above all is the use in the area of speech. Every other war that ever started
in this world was sparked by words (tongue). It starts from the war of words to
the war of arms and in the end; it is the children that still bears the brunt.
So either way, they are the ones losing. At
war front, they bear the brunt, at home, they still bear the brunt: That is
the purpose of this write up.
In the book of James 3:5 the bible says;
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.
Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! (KJV)
The tongue has the capacity to kindle a fire that can consume the whole
world. It can wreck havoc. It can also bring the world peace or blessings; it
all depends on how it is used. I don’t want to dwell on this, I prefer we go
back to our anchor scripture.
“Life and death”
Life denotes the existence of an individual human being or animal,
while death according to English Oxford Dictionary is the action or fact of
dying of a person or organism. This is a state of where things cease to exist.
All these two as powerful as they are, they are at the mercy of the tongue! It
is the tongue that determines what should happen to both.
The bible says,
Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it
shall eat the fruit thereof.
So what happens whether death or life, depends on the tongue. Can you
see why we should be careful on how we address our children? We must mind our
words; they impact either negatively or positively.
